Simple Things Festival 2017
When: 21st October
Who: Leftfield, Metronomy, Daphni, Clark
With the summer now over, and with festivals put on hold for another year, it’s events like Simple Things Festival that keep us all in sync until Christmas. Now in its tenth year, Simple Things is a day-long metropolitan festival hosted in Bristol around October time, with an opening performance from a special guest the night before at Motion. This year’s event takes place on October 21st, at various venues across the city, with a ticket yours for around £40.
Simple Things has always prided itself on its alternate offerings musically speaking, and through the years has boasted artists you’re unlikely to come across all that often- previous examples include Death Grips, Evian Christ and Squarepusher. And often you’ll find next year’s breakthrough artist nestled around within the lineup, case in point Glass Animals in 2013, or Public Service Broadcasting back in 2012.
And this year’s event is no different. Headlining Simple Things 2017, are groundbreaking electronic outfit Leftfield, who bring their special celebratory Leftism set to Colston Hall. Metronomy meanwhile, upgrade their DJ set from last year, to an opening performance at Motion on the Friday night. Wild Beasts bring their cloud rock show to Bristol as well, alongside a live set from Clark. Omar Souleyman brings far-eastern vibes, with a rare appearance from the Syrian, while Dan Snaith, better known as Caribou, switches aliases for a special four-hour set under the Daphni moniker.
Elsewhere on the lineup, expect strong outings from the likes of Juan Atkins, John Maus, Shackleton, Dekmantel Soundsystem, and Alex G. Also make sure you catch the Mixpak showcase, who skyrocketed to fame last year, by beating Eskimo Dance, UKG, and Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang to the Red Bull Culture Clash title.
