Having previously been rumoured to be acquiring Beats Electronics for $320billion, Apple has now confirmed that it has in fact agreed a deal for Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine’s Beats By Dre for a colossal $300billion. With similar branding, what with the flush packaging and minimalist logo/products etc. it seems like it was nothing short of inevitable that the two electronics juggernauts would come together in collaboration at some point.
It’s also worth noting a few conditions of the deal; the key point is that Apple and Beats By Dre will operate as two different brands. The newly introduced Beats Music will continue to operate alongside Apple‘s own music streaming service – iTunes Radio, once competitors now become teammates, both pumping into the californian money pot. As well as this, it probably means Beats By Dre ear/headphones will not be packaged with Apple‘s products. A final point to make is that co-founders Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine themselves will be brought over to Apple, only this time they’ll be working under Apple‘s executive in charge of internet services , Eddy Cue.
