Kasabian Spinal Tap
The veteran rock icon Billy Bragg is set to perform at 2014’s Glastonbury Festival alongside Sunday night headliners Kasabian (yes, really), he compared the four-peice rock group to that of the mockumentary stars of the film Spinal Tap.
Speaking to NME, Bragg said ‘They have an import role to play: they are there to remind us how true Spinal Tap was. I’m not a fan, but if you read their interviews as if it was dialogue from Spinal Tap, it’s very entertaining. Especially the stuff Sergio [Pizzorno] says – he’s Nigel Tufnel. Particularly with the album title, ’48:13′. I’m guessing that’s how long the record is. Someone sent them a CD that just said ‘Kasabian’, and they didn’t know what else to put on it, because they hadn’t bothered to think up any fucking titles, so they just put the time on and Serge said ‘that is genius’.
I’m also not a fan of Kasabian and I completely agree with Bragg’s comments, it’s just something of an unimaginative cliche to title an album in this manner and it really is pandering to their audience. Do you agree with Bragg? Are Kasabian like Spinal Tap? Do they deserve their headline spot? Let us know in the comments below.
