Those of you with devotion to Odd Future must be having a field day at the moment. Earl Sweatshirt blessed us with his third studio album, Frank Ocean finally shared details of his next project set to be released in July, and now the frontman and OF honcho himself Tyler, The Creator, unveils a plethora of things to get excited about- an app, a magazine, a new album set to be released on Monday, and two/three new songs!
Firstly, the thing to get most excited about is the video to FUCKING YOUNG/PERFECT. An instantly Tyler video that nods at past efforts’ productional values such as Rella, with the added bemusement of Tamale. The barmy video aside, it’s the song itself that truly excites me. Some of my favourite songs on Wolf were the more production and compositional orientated cuts such as Treehome, Party Isn’t Over/Campfire/Bimmer, and the album’s title track. FUCKING YOUNG stems directly from these type of songs, which I’m more than happy about. DEATHCAMP however is the type of song that Tyler obviously made with N.E.R.D. fresh in his memory.
As well as this, Wolf Haley announces his next studio album in full, his fourth so far, entitled Cherry Bomb. The album is now available to pre-order on iTunes, set to be released on April 15th, and it also gives you the option to stream two songs already- the opener DEATHCAMP, and the aforementioned, FUCKING YOUNG/PERFECT. Other details of the project so far include that Charlie Wilson, Toro Y Moi and The Black Lips’ Cole Alexander were scouted for the crafting of the above tracks. Complex magazine also speculates that none other than Lil Wayne and Kanye West are set to appear on Cherry Bomb as well.
Finally, the app and magazine is another OF instalment rolled into one and acts as a joint place to keep up to date with all things Tyler. To subscribe to Tyler’s new venture you’re going to have to part with $3.99 p/m while the first two months are free, what exactly is covered in the app or magazine remains unclear, but you can download Golf Media from the app store as of now.
