Camp Bestival is the sister event to one of the UK’s biggest musical shindigs, you guessed it- Bestival. Under the Sunday Best brand, fronted, curated and organised by accomplished DJ Rob Da Bank, alongside his wife Josie, the pair are also the brains behind Common People, a city event based in Southampton and Oxford. Camp Bestival is arguably one of the most family-orientated festivals around, without fully committing to ‘kids stuff only’- this is still very much a universal music event, one you should seriously consider going along to, with or without the little ones.

Based at the coastal town of Dorset, an hour’s drive from Bristol, Camp Bestival has been in fruition since 2008, during which it has boasted past headliners such as Fatboy Slim, Underworld, and De La Soul. At this year’s event, the headliners include renowned live performers, and all-round musical legends Madness, Brian Wilson, who presents a Saturday night offering of Pet Sounds, leaving Sunday night headliner Mark Ronson the duties of bringing the four-day event to a close. Some other highlights of Camp Bestival include Leftfield, who bring their acclaimed Leftism celebratory set to Dorset, four-piece girlband royalty- All Saints, as well as a plethora of DJs, from Skream to Congo Natty, to the maraca man himself- Bez.

As mentioned, Camp Bestival has a special place for families and kids, that’s why it has one of the most complete selections of entertainments, even if music isn’t your, or your child’s thing. Booked in at Camp Bestival this year are Cbeebies frontman Mr Tumble, the Bungalow/Bogie Boys themselves Dick N Dom, a full-scale insect circus, and the West End’s critically acclaimed, and box office success story- School of Rock: The Musical. Live at The Apollo favourite Reginald D Hunter takes care of stand-up duties alongside Gary Delaney and Kerry Godliman.

Having experienced Bestival and the great lengths the organisers go to ensure a truly customer-orientated event, I can almost guarantee Camp Bestival to be the same. With a stellar lineup boasting some legendary headliners and just-as-pioneering support, alongside some incredible entertainment for the kids or indeed the big kids, Camp Bestival should be the number one event for you and your family.
